What we handle

Gutter Services for Vero Beach Homes

Six kinds of gutter work, each with its own page. Pick the one that fits, or call and describe the problem.

Gutter Installation in Vero Beach

New seamless aluminum gutters formed on site in 6- or 7-inch K-style, sized for the 53 inches of rain Vero Beach gets in a year. Installers fit them to shingle, concrete tile and metal roofs, use hidden hangers and coastal-grade fasteners, and place downspouts so water clears sandy beds and slab edges.

Gutter Repair in Vero Beach

Leaking corners, separated seams, sagging runs and gutters torn loose by storms. A local installer finds out why water is escaping, checks the fascia behind the gutter, and tells you plainly whether resealing will hold or a section should be replaced, with a written price before any repair starts on your Vero Beach home.

Gutter Cleaning in Vero Beach

Live oak tassels, pine needles and palm seeds pack into Vero Beach gutters in every season, not just fall. A cleaning visit clears the troughs by hand, flushes each downspout, runs a flow test and checks hangers and seams while the ladder is up, with extra care taken on tile and metal roofs.

Gutter Guards in Vero Beach

Live oak tassels, pine needles and palm seeds fall on Vero Beach roofs all year, not just in autumn. A local installer matches micro-mesh, perforated or screen guards to the debris you actually have, fits them without lifting roof tile, and tells you plainly how much upkeep they will still need.

Downspouts & Drainage in Vero Beach

A gutter only moves water to a corner. On flat, sandy Vero Beach lots, where it goes next decides whether beds wash out, pavers sink or water pools at the slab. Installers size downspouts for summer cloudbursts and add extensions, splash blocks or buried lines with pop-up emitters to carry runoff clear.

Copper Gutters in Vero Beach

On the barrier island, copper holds up to salt air where thin coatings and steel screws give out, and it weathers to a brown then green patina that suits tile and stucco. Installers fabricate half-round, K-style or box profiles with copper hangers and fasteners, so no mixed metals start corroding at the roof edge.

Local know-how

What Vero Beach Weather Does to a Roof Edge

Vero Beach gets about 53 inches of rain a year, mostly between June and October in short, heavy afternoon storms; August alone averages more than 7 inches. A small gutter overflows, and the water hits the same strip of sandy soil every time. A few wet seasons later there is a trench along the drip line.

Many homes have no gutters

Florida does not require gutters on most houses. The typical home in the city dates to the mid-1970s, and many mainland block ranches were built with none, or with one short run over the front door. That makes new installation the most common job here. Downspouts that release water at least 3 feet from the slab keep it out of the garage.

Salt air on the barrier island

East of the lagoon, salt air goes after anything thin or made of plain steel. Steel screws rust and streak the fascia (the board the gutter hangs on). Island homes do better with heavier aluminum, stainless or coated fasteners, and in some cases copper gutters.

Debris that never takes a season off

Live oaks drop leaves and stringy tassels in spring, pines shed needles all year, and palms let go of seed clusters and fronds. There is no single fall cleanup here. A clogged outlet is the usual cause of overflow, which is why gutter cleaning and gutter guards come up so often.

Wind

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Frances and Jeanne both crossed the Treasure Coast in 2004, and on October 9, 2024 the Hurricane Milton outbreak sent two EF1 tornadoes through the Vero Beach area. Wind grabs a run at its weakest hanger and peels the rest. Hidden hangers screwed into solid fascia hold far better than old spikes. If a storm already pulled yours loose, start with gutter repair.

Self-check

Quick Check: Does Your Roof Edge Need Attention?

Walk around the house during or right after the next heavy rain. Each yes is worth mentioning when you call.

One yes usually points to cleaning or a small repair. Two or more, or any sagging gutter or soft fascia, is worth having an installer look at.

Call (855) 633-0442
  • Water spills over a corner or the front lip of the gutter in a downpour.
  • Oak leaves, tassels or pine needles sit in the gutter or pack a downspout outlet.
  • A section sags, or a gap has opened between the gutter and the fascia.
  • Screws, spikes or hangers show rust or orange streaks, especially near the ocean.
  • Water lands beside the slab, a walkway or a planting bed, or a trench runs along the drip line.
  • A storm or a big rain changed how a gutter sits or drains.
  • The house has no gutters, or only one short run over the front door.
  • Paint is peeling or the wood feels soft on the fascia behind the gutter.

Materials and sizes

Choosing the Right Gutter System for a Vero Beach Home

The right system depends on how much roof drains into each run, how steep it is, where valleys pour water onto a corner, how close the house sits to salt water and what the budget allows. Color and price matter, but they come after the drainage questions.

Gutter materials compared for Vero Beach conditions
MaterialRelative costSalt air and upkeepBest fit hereLimits
Seamless aluminumModerate; the usual choiceDoes not rust; near the ocean it needs stainless or coated fasteners, and heavier coil holds its shape in windMost mainland and island homes, in 6- or 7-inch K-styleThin builder-grade coil dents and sags; painted finish can chalk over the years
CopperPremium, several times aluminumDoes not rust; weathers brown, then green; needs copper hangers and fastenersBarrier island estates, tile roofs, half-round profilesCost; cannot touch aluminum or steel (galvanic corrosion); runoff can stain
Galvanized steelLow to moderateZinc coating wears, and cut or scratched edges rust fastest in salt airInland outbuildings where strength matters more than finishRust streaks near the coast; heavy and harder to repair
VinylLowestWill not rust, but Florida sun turns it brittle and joints start to leakShort runs on sheds or carportsSags in heat; snap-together joints; weak in hurricane wind

5-inch, 6-inch or 7-inch gutters?

Five-inch K-style was the old builder default, and it is often the gutter that overflows here. Six-inch is now the usual size for Vero Beach homes, and 7-inch suits big tile or metal roofs and long runs. Size is only part of the answer: a bigger channel will not fix poor pitch, a clogged outlet or too few downspouts. Ask the installer which roof areas feed each run and where every downspout will go. Sizing is covered in more detail on our seamless gutter installation page.

Gutter guards: useful, not maintenance-free

Micro-mesh guards cut down on cleaning under oaks and pines, but no guard stops everything. Oak tassels and pollen can mat on top, and corners and outlets still need a look now and then. A good recommendation names the guard, the runs it covers and the upkeep that stays with you. See gutter guards in Vero Beach and our comparison of whether gutter guards are worth it in Florida.

How it works

How It Works

From the first call to a finished roof edge.

  1. 1

    Call and describe the job

Call (855) 633-0442 and tell us what is going on: new gutters, a leaking corner, a clogged downspout or storm damage. We ask for the address, the number of stories and the roof type.

  2. 2

We match you with an installer

Your request goes to an independent, insured installer who works your part of the Treasure Coast and handles that kind of job. Then we tell you the earliest available visit for your address.

  3. 3

    You get a written price

The installer measures the linear footage (the total length of the gutter runs), checks the fascia and where the water will drain, then gives you a written price. Nothing starts until you agree.

  4. 4

    The work gets done

New gutters are formed on site from aluminum coil, so each straight run is one piece, with joints only at the corners and outlets. Before the crew leaves, ask them to run water through the system and put any warranty terms in writing.

What the installer checks on the visit

  • Measures each gutter run instead of guessing the total
  • Checks the pitch, so every run falls toward its outlet
  • Looks over the fascia, hangers, miters (corner joints), end caps and fasteners
  • Looks for salt-air rust on barrier island and beachside homes
  • Follows each downspout to where the water actually lands
  • Notes access: height, screen enclosures, pool cages and landscaping

That inspection is how a cleaning problem gets told apart from a repair, sizing or drainage problem, so you are not sold a new system you do not need.

Before the visit

If you can, take dated photos during a heavy rain: which corners spill, any loose sections and where the water lands. Keep the photos even after cleanup. Away for the season? A property manager or neighbor can meet the installer.

Pricing, honestly

What Changes a Gutter Estimate in Vero Beach

Each installer prices the job after measuring the house, so we do not publish a one-size price. Per-foot figures you see online leave out most of what moves a real quote. These are the things that do:

  • Linear footage: the total length of gutter runs, measured run by run.
  • Stories and access: two-story eaves, screen enclosures, pool cages and tight side yards take more ladder time.
  • Material, size and gauge: aluminum or copper, 6-inch or 7-inch, and the thickness of the coil.
  • Corners, outlets and downspouts: every miter, end cap, outlet and downspout adds parts and labor.
  • Gutter guards: the type, and which runs they cover.
  • Fascia condition: rotted or soft wood has to be replaced before a gutter can hang from it.
  • Old gutters: taking them down and hauling them away.
  • Drainage work: extensions, splash blocks or buried lines that move water away from the slab.
  • Permits: whether the scope needs one, and who pulls it.

What your written gutter estimate should spell out

Get the price on paper before work starts, and compare at least three quotes line by line instead of by the bottom number. A low total often means something was left out and comes back later as a change order.

  • Material, color, gutter size and downspout size
  • Linear footage and the number of stories
  • Corners, end caps, outlets, hangers and the fastener type (stainless or coated near the coast)
  • Guards, and exactly which runs they cover
  • Fascia repair, or a clear note that it is excluded
  • Removal, disposal, cleanup and any permit
  • Where each downspout will discharge
  • Workmanship warranty and manufacturer material warranty, in writing
  • Payment schedule, and a water test before the crew leaves

Our guide to how much gutters cost in Vero Beach walks through each line so two quotes can be compared fairly.

Drainage and the lagoon

Coastal Drainage: Where the Water Goes After the Gutter

Gutters solve only half the problem. The water still has to leave the downspout, and on a flat, sandy Vero Beach lot it often ends up at the slab, on a paver walkway or in a planting bed. Roof runoff also carries grit and fertilizer toward storm drains. Indian River County runs a stormwater program under the federal EPA NPDES stormwater program, largely to cut the runoff pollution that reaches the Indian River Lagoon.

  • Follow every downspout to where the water actually lands.
  • Look for splashback, standing water, washed-out soil and staining along the slab.
  • Discharge at least 3 feet from the house, and farther on sandy lots, using extensions, splash blocks or a buried line with a pop-up emitter.
  • Do not aim a downspout at a neighbor's yard or bury a line without asking about local drainage rules.
  • Get the discharge route written into the quote.

Extensions, buried lines and erosion fixes are covered on the downspouts and drainage page.

Island, mainland and storm-season checks

  • Barrier island and beachside near Ocean Drive: check fasteners and hangers for rust, plus exposed runs and attachment points, after each season of salt air and wind.
  • Older mainland neighborhoods under oaks: check corners and outlets before and after the spring leaf and tassel drop.
  • North River Shores and other low, drainage-sensitive lots: watch where downspout water pools or cuts channels near the house.
  • Before June 1: clear gutters and outlets, test the flow and tighten loose hangers in late spring, ahead of the wettest months.
  • After a tropical storm: stay off ladders until the wind drops, photograph damage before cleanup and keep any fallen sections. Our guide to storm-damaged gutters covers what insurers usually ask for.

Licensing and permits

Before You Sign: How to Check Any Gutter Contractor

"Licensed and insured" on a website is not proof. Whoever does the work, including the installer we send, check these before you sign:

  • Ask which Florida license or local certificate covers the job, get the exact number and look it up on the Florida DBPR license search.
  • Ask for proof of general liability insurance, and workers' compensation where it applies.
  • Ask whether the job needs a permit or county registration. Indian River County lists gutter work among its locally licensed trades, and St. Lucie County sets its own rules for Fort Pierce and Lakewood Park.
  • Get the workmanship warranty and the manufacturer's material warranty in writing.
  • Compare at least three written quotes, line by line.

Building work in Florida falls under the 8th Edition (2023) Florida Building Code. Whether a gutter job needs a permit depends on the scope, especially when fascia or structural repairs are included, and your installer should say who handles it. Every gutter installer we send is licensed where Florida requires it, and insured.

Vero Beach neighborhoods, and what to check in each

Barrier Island, Riomar and Central Beach
Salt air, exposed runs and wind. Ask for stainless or coated fasteners, heavier aluminum or copper gutters.
Beachside blocks near Ocean Drive
Exposed hardware and tight lots. Plan where each downspout releases, so water stays off walkways and away from neighbors.
North River Shores
Low lots near the river, where downspout routing and erosion matter as much as the gutter itself.
Older mainland neighborhoods
Mature live oaks and pines over older fascia. Cleaning timing and fascia condition come first.
Vero Beach South, Florida Ridge, Gifford and Winter Beach
Many block homes were built without gutters, so new seamless gutter installation is the usual job.

Seasonal owners, landlords and property managers are welcome: tell us when you call, and a manager or neighbor can meet the installer. Port St. Lucie and Stuart are outside our regular area, so call to ask before booking.

Gutter Questions from Vero Beach Homeowners

What gutter services are available for Vero Beach homes?

The installers we send handle six kinds of work: seamless gutter installation, gutter repair, gutter cleaning, gutter guards, downspouts and drainage, and copper and half-round gutters. New installation is the most common call, since many homes here were built without gutters. Repairs pick up after wind events, and cleaning is a regular visit under oaks and pines.

Which areas around Vero Beach do you cover?

We cover Vero Beach and everything within roughly 25 minutes of the center of town. That includes Vero Beach South, Florida Ridge, Gifford and Winter Beach, the barrier island and Indian River Shores, Sebastian to the north, and Lakewood Park and Fort Pierce to the south. Not sure about your street? Call with the address.

Are the gutter installers you send licensed and insured?

Yes. Every gutter installer we send is licensed where Florida requires it, and insured. Florida has no statewide gutter license, so it depends on the county: Indian River County licenses gutters as a local specialty trade, and St. Lucie County sets its own rules. You can look up any contractor on the Florida DBPR license search at myfloridalicense.com.

How do I get a gutter quote?

Call (855) 633-0442. We ask a few questions about the house, match you with an insured local installer and tell you the earliest available visit. The installer measures the runs, checks the fascia and roof edge, and hands you a written price. Work starts only after you accept it. Not urgent? Use the contact page form.

What size gutters does a Vero Beach home need?

Most homes here do better with 6-inch K-style gutters than the older 5-inch size, and large tile or metal roofs often call for 7-inch. The right choice depends on how much roof drains into each run, how steep it is and how many downspouts the runs feed. Sizing is covered on our gutter installation page.

What type of gutters work best near the coast?

Near salt water, heavier aluminum hung with stainless or coated fasteners is the usual choice, and copper is the long-lived upgrade. Copper does not rust; it weathers to brown, then green. The catch: copper touching aluminum or steel causes galvanic corrosion, so the hangers, downspouts and flashing all have to match. See copper and half-round gutters.

How much does gutter installation cost in Vero Beach?

There is no honest flat price, because the installer prices each house after measuring it. The quote moves with the total length of the runs, one or two stories, aluminum or copper, 6- or 7-inch size, the number of corners and downspouts, guards, fascia repair and removing old gutters. You get a written price before any work starts. Our Vero Beach gutter cost guide explains each line so quotes can be compared.

Why are gutters overflowing during heavy summer storms?

Usually it is one of five things: a clogged outlet or downspout, poor pitch that lets water sit, a roof valley pouring more water onto one corner than the gutter can take, too few downspouts, or a gutter that is too small for the roof. Vero Beach gets about 53 inches of rain a year, much of it in short cloudbursts, so weak spots show quickly. Cleaning fixes a clog; overflow that keeps coming back needs measuring.

Where should downspouts discharge around a Vero Beach home?

At least 3 feet from the house, and farther on sandy lots, so water does not soak the soil at the slab or wash out beds and pavers. Extensions, splash blocks or a buried line ending in a pop-up emitter all work. Keep the runoff off neighbors' property and walkways, and have the route written into the quote. Options are covered on our downspouts and drainage page.

Why do Vero Beach homes need corrosion-resistant gutter hardware?

Salt air rusts plain steel screws and hangers quickly, especially on the barrier island and beachside streets. Rusted fasteners streak the fascia and are the first thing to let go in high wind, even when the aluminum gutter itself is fine. Ask for stainless or coated fasteners and hidden hangers, and on copper gutters, copper or brass hardware only.

Does a gutter installation require a permit in Vero Beach or Indian River County?

It depends on the scope of work. Jobs that include fascia, structural attachment or other building repairs are more likely to need one. Indian River County and the City of Vero Beach set the rules, and state-certified contractors must register before working in the county. Ask your installer who checks for and pulls any permit; it should be named in the written quote.

When should gutters be inspected after a tropical storm?

As soon as the wind has dropped and it is safe to look, and before any cleanup. Photograph loose or bent sections, gaps at the fascia, clogged outlets and where water now lands, and keep any fallen pieces. Then call to set up an inspection. Demand runs high after a big storm, so we cannot promise a fixed time, but we will tell you the earliest available visit.

When is the best time to install or clean gutters in Vero Beach?

Late spring, before the June to October rainy season, is the best planning window. An inspection then catches clogged outlets, poor pitch and loose hangers before the heavy storms arrive. Homes under live oaks often need another cleaning after the spring leaf and tassel drop, and pines shed all year, so heavily treed lots may need more than one visit.

Is gutter damage from a storm covered by homeowners insurance?

That depends on your policy, and the insurer decides, not the installer. Florida policies often carry a separate hurricane deductible, so check your declarations page. What helps any claim is documentation: dated photos taken before cleanup, the date of the storm and a written repair estimate. The installer can describe the visible damage in writing but cannot promise coverage.

Last reviewed . We review this page before each rainy season and whenever building code, licensing or county stormwater guidance changes.
